Elan has a long history of great race skis (see Ingemar Stenmark) and innovation in shape (see Parabolic). We consider their line of aluminum topsheet freeride skis to be some of the best ever. How much do we love them? More Kittredge employees own the 888 Alu than any other ski. This titanium reinforced wood core aluminum topped sidewall construction may be the ultimate blend of power precision, and liveliness and stability. For our men's test team this is our favorite all mountain construction; skis like the 888 Alu and 999 Alu set the standard. The 888 Alu) has been around for years, and has to be called the 888, and the Apex. Last season it was updated with a touch of tip rocker that loosened it up and makes a great ski even better. The 999 Alu has been out for two seasons, and remains one of our favorite 100ish underfoot skis; it is a true quiver of one, and maybe the best all around ski ever. The new Domino was our overall tester favorite this season. It's a wider (104mm waist)rockered twin that is a blast in any snow condition. For hard charging ladies, the Zeal (88mm) finally brings the thin aluminum construction of the men's Summit skis into the women's line. If Zeal is too much, (and for some it really is!) the Amphibio Inspire Fusion is a smooth and nimble all mountain carver.
