Elan has a long history of great race skis (see Ingemar Stenmark) and innovation in shape (see Parabolic). We consider their line of aluminum topsheet freeride skis to be some of the best ever. How much do we love them? More Kittredge employees own the Apex than any other ski. This titanium reinforced wood core aluminum topped sidewall construction may be the ultimate blend of power precision, and liveliness and stability. For our men’s test team this is our favorite all mountain construction; skis like the Apex and Spire set the standard. The Apex (88mm) has been around for years, and used to be called the 888. This season it is updated with a touch of tip rocker that loosens it up and makes a great ski even better. The Spire (98mm) came out last year, and remains our favorite 100ish underfoot ski; it is a true quiver of one, and maybe the best all around ski ever. The Olympus Mons is the big gun of the line, with a 110 waist and tip rocker. It was a big favorite with our testers, especially the big guys, who were just a little bummed we did not have any powder to slay with it.

Last year did not carry any women’s skis from Elan. We liked the way they skied, but the graphics were pretty weak. This year they look great and ski better than ever. The Zeal (88mm) finally brings the thin aluminum construction of the men’s summit skis into the women’s line, while the Bliss walks the line between powder float and all mountain versatility.
