Picking out a new pair of skis and/or boots can be a daunting task or an exciting experience. To better sell you skis we learn about ours by skiing them. Our test team is comprised of a variety of skiers, both men and women, and also includes several certified instructors.

Every February our team of testers gets to ski next year’s skis. We always hope for a mix of snow conditions, so that we can really give them a thorough test drive. Last year was not a great snow year, and no snow had fallen for weeks prior to the test. We tested every ski on the hard snow that was so prevalent last season. It would not be unreasonable to assume that these firm conditions might skew our preference to narrow carve skis, but this was not the case. Almost all of our favorite skis were at least 83 mm wide underfoot. Our female skiers liked at least 75 mm underfoot, even for groomed skiing. Wider is better. Fat is good. You already drive an SUV or Subaru in the mountains, you should ski one too. .
